In high school and university, I was an avid player of tennis and golf. At that time, I had the convenience of renting demo racquets and golf clubs to test them out before making a purchase.
Investing in freedive fins is one of the most important decisions as an advanced freediver, as they significantly impact your performance. Like many, I’ve spent hours researching online, consulting other instructors, and seeking opinions from fellow freedivers.
Freedive fins, beyond the basic plastic ones, can be pricey, ranging from US$300 to US$1000 (NT$10,000-NT$30,000). A major drawback in this sport is the lack of opportunity to try on fins before buying, which then often feels like a gamble.
My first pair of freedive fins, made of fiberglass, were a mixed experience. The foot pocket was comfortable, but the medium stiffness of the blade, chosen based on size and weight charts, proved far from ideal for my instructor course, especially at depths of 40m. Had I been able to try them beforehand, I might have opted for softer fins.
My second pair were carbon fins, chosen based on a friend's recommendation. I had two foot pocket options; both felt good when tried on dry. I chose one based on advice, and while I was satisfied with the blade stiffness, the foot pockets ended up being uncomfortable, cutting into my ankles during long sessions. I later realized that the other foot pocket option, similar to my first fins, would have been more comfortable.
At Deep Week Taiwan last year, special guest Alexey Molchanov introduced the new Sport Bifins 3. I tried them and was impressed by their responsiveness and affordability. A standout feature was the removable foot pocket, which allowed for easy swapping and experimentation with different sizes, stiffnesses, and materials like carbon or fiberglass. With 6 foot pockets and 4 blade pairs, there are 24 possible combinations.

This experience with the Sport Bifins 3 influenced my decision to become a Molchanovs dealer, allowing me to offer trial or demo fins for customers to try before they buy, ensuring their satisfaction.
We're planning monthly trial events for these fins. To stay updated, follow
